Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM)

Prairie Machine recently received our first high accuracy coordinate-measuring machine (CMM), one of the largest in the province! After a series of onboarding sessions with the Mitutoyo experts, we are excited to get this tool into the hands of our Quality Department so they can better assess the parts they manufacture.

The coordinate-measuring machine works using a detection probe to precisely measure the geometry of an object. With the help of the CMM, our team can ensure that the components we put into our machines are as accurate as ±0.001 of a millimeter, or one micron. This level of accuracy is especially important when manufacturing critical parts like gearing, MSHA-certified enclosures, and other interconnected components, and improves the reliability of our equipment.

Assemblies like the Xcel 44 Tram Drive Gearcase contain multiple sets of precisely interconnected pinions and gears which work together to drive the mining machine.
